Two French MPs in Israel to learn from the Israeli experience in dealing with terrorism
09.08.2016, Israel and the World Two French MPs Eric Ciotti et Guillaume Larrive are in Israel for a three-day visit aimed at finding solutions to fight terrorism following the attacks in France.
During their stay, the two members of the French parliament from the opposition Les Republicains centre-right party, are to meet with specialists in security and intelligence.
Eric Ciotti is from the city of Nice where a terrorist, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, killed at least 85 people and injured hundreds of others as he rammed a 19-tonne lorry into a huge crowd that had gathered to celebrate Bastille Day on 14 July.
"We are coming to Israel in order to find other solutions in the fight again st terrorism,’’ said Larrive.
"We want to look at what Israelis do with controls at the airport, organisation of emergency services, intelligence and citizens’ mobilisation,’’ he added.
On Monday, Yair Lapid, leader of the Yesh Atid party, met with the two MPs and told them : "Israel has been dealing in the past months with an evil terror wave perpetrated by people who will use any means. France also finds itself facing Islamic terror that is trying to threaten its basic values. Terror must be fought with strength and determination. Israel and France are old allies who share interests, and we must cooperate in the fight against terror."
"Our experience tells us that the main legal problems come not from the fight against terror itself, but against its support system. For example Islamist organizations that transfer funds to terror groups and Imams in mosques who incite to violence, or incitement on social media. In every country fighting terror there is a need for a law like the Israeli 'terror law' that was drafted in the past few months by the Coalition and the Opposition, in order to improve the methods of contending with Islamic terror."
