Israel is angry at the European Union decision to open offices in Tehran.

The Foreign Ministry was also angry with the European Union for its decision to open offices in Tehran.

The decision to set up an official diplomatic mission in Iran was announced earlier this week by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Iranian nuclear deal with world powers.

In a statement issued by Mogherini to mark the one-year anniversary of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPA) she said, "One year after the conclusion of the landmark deal on Iran's nuclear program agreed in Vienna, the European Union is pleased to note that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is being implemented. This demonstrates that with political will, perseverance and multilateral diplomacy, workable solutions can be found to the most difficult problems."

The nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of powers (Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States) limited Tehran’s atomic program in return for the lifting of some international sanctions, which took effect in January. Mogherini visited Tehran last April.

“The European Union supports a strategy of gradual engagement that is comprehensive in scope, cooperative where there is mutual interest, critical when there are differences and constructive in practice,’’ the statement added.

“As part of that, the European Union intends to open an EU Delegation in Iran,’’ it said.

Israel’s foreign ministry reacted to the EU decision by saing, ‘’The opening of an EU office in Iran is a grave mistake. Iran's behavior has not changed. It is the world's worst state sponsor of terrorism. It funds murder throughout the Middle East. It hangs gays and brutally represses its own people.

‘’Iran brazenly violates its international obligations while literally emblazoning its missiles with 'Israel will be wiped out.' Iran recently appointed a cleric head of the Assembly of Experts who calls for the destruction of both Israel and America. Iran should not be rewarded as it spreads murder and mayhem across the world."
