According to the Swedish media, the country’s Foreign Minister Margot Wallström has called for an investigation to determine whether Israel was guilty of extrajudicial killings of Palestinians during recent violence.
"It is vital that there is a thorough, credible investigation into these deaths in order to clarify and bring about possible accountability,"she said during a parliamentary debate.
Israeli foreign ministry slammed the statement as "irresponsible and delusional,", stressing that ‘’the Swedish Foreign Minister has, in her reckless and ludicrous comments, buoyed terrorism and by so doing is encouraging violence."
Relations between Sweden and Israel hit a snag since the Swedish government recognized a ‘’Palestine state’’ shortly after Prime Minister Stefan Löfven’s centre-left Social Democrats won general elections in 2014.
The rift between Jerusalem and Stockholm further deepened further when Wallstrom described the Palestinians' plight as a factor leading to Islamist radicalization.
Last December, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven himself caused controversy when he said stabbing attacks were not considered terrorism.
