'' Nothing seems to stop the dramatic increase of anti-Semitism in France which today reached appalling levels,'' said CRIF, the umbrella body representing Jewish organisations in France, after the publication by the Interior Ministry and the Service dealing with the protection of the Jewish community (SPCJ) of figures showing ta sharp rise of the number of anti-Semitic acts since the beginning of the year.

According to these figures, 508 anti-Semitic acts (violent actions and threats) have been registered for the period from 1 January to 31 May 2015, an increase of 84% compared to the same period of 2014 and 161% compared to 2013.

Within these actions, the category "violent actions" is up 59% compared to the same months of 2014 and by 124% if one takes into account this period in 2013.

The number of anti-Semitic incidents doubled (+ 101%) in France for the whole year 2014 compared to 2013, with a rise in violence this time stronger than threats.

In a statement, CRIF said that these figures are only based on complaints of anti-semitic attacks or threats and ‘’represent only part of the reality of anti-Semitism on the ground.’’

CRIF emphasized that this sharp deterioration '’is unfortunately not a surprise,’’ citing the Internet as the main mean for the spread of anti-Semitic ideas in public opinion and stressing the ''impunity enjoyed by some notorious anti-Semites.’’

CRIF asked the government to review the legal status of social networks operating in France (Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Google) to face civil and criminal responsibility.

CRIF also denounced the rise of movements calling for a boycott of Israeli products that are used to hide notoriously anti-Semitic campaigns.
