Palestinians drop bid to suspend Israel from FIFA
29.05.2015, Israel and the World The head of the Palestinian Football Association announced on Friday that he has decided to drop a bid to suspend Israel from FIFA, the world football governing body, for the meantime.
Addressing the FIFA's Congress, Jibril Rajoub demanded the creation on a committee to ensure his requests are met concerning Israel's regulation of movement by Palestinian players.
"I decided to drop the suspension but it does not mean that I give up the resistance," said Rajoub, a senior Fatah official.
Earlier Friday, members of the Israeli and Palestinian delegations to the FIFA Congress used the 90-minute lunch break to try and broker a deal to avoid bringing the proposed suspension of Israel from the organization to a vote.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter said FIFA cannot interfere in political territories (one of the three issues raised by Rajoub) and a new committee will look the other matters.
The Palestinians wanted a vote on the issues immediately but Blatter didn't. s — 90% voted in favour of setting up the committee to monitor the issues between Palestine and Israel.
