A 75-year-old woman was the victim of a anti-Semitic abuse because of her Jewish-sounding name in Brussels.
The victim had gone to the town hall in search of documents. A young man standing behind her in line at the counter heard her Jewish-sounding surname. He then hit and pushed the woman to the ground. According to the victim, she was also insulted.
The Belgian League against Anti-Semitism (LBCA) said it intends to file a complaint for assault with aggravating circumstances of racism and anti-Semitism.
The victim was out with bruises on her right leg. The assailant has not been identified.
"Political leaders cannot accept the release of anti-Semitic speech and must fight against the climate of impunity surrounding these crimes. The liberation of anti-Semitic speech leads the such acts," said LBCA President, Joel Rubinfeld.
