The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor this week criticized the ‘’weak’’ world reaction to the kidnapping of three Israeli teenagers, attributing the weakness to delegitimization and dehumanization of the state of Israel,
Eyal Yifrah, 19, Naftali Frenkel, 16, and Gilad Sha''ar, 16, have been kidnapped last week by Hamas terrorists as they were returning home from school.
"The family of nations needs to say ''guys - enough is enough, we can''t be silent because it will reach our doorstep,''" said Prosor.
Standing next to pictures of the kidnapped teens, Prosor added, "The kidnapping took place just 10 days after Fatah and Hamas formed a unity government. All those in the international community who rushed to bless this marriage, should look into the eyes of the heartbroken parents and have the courage to take responsibility by condemning the kidnapping.
"The international community bought into a bad deal and Israel is paying for it. We have gotten a taste of the bitter tragedy that comes with Hamas in a Palestinian government. Terrorism is what they know, it is what they preach, and it is what they teach.
"It''s worth recalling that the Palestinians recently signed the Convention on the Rights of the Child. They obviously signed without reading it,’’ Prosor said.
"There are a lot of things here connected to the delegitimization and dehumanization of the state of Israel, and you need to change the right of opposition. Legitimate criticism is fine and dandy, but we aren''t prepared to accept the delegitimization and dehumanization of the state of Israel," the ambassador said.
He called on the UN Security Council and the international community to ‘’unequivocally condemn the kidnapping and ensure that our boys return home safely to their families.’’
‘’The international community must also call on [Palestinian Authority] President [Mahmoud] Abbas to: 1. Disarm Hamas, 2. Stop the smuggling and manufacturing of weapons, 3. Prevent rocket fire. This is the only responsible course of action."
Israel’s mission at the United Nations has ripped the international body as hypocritical, “0ut of touch and out of line” for claiming in had “no information to confirm” the abduction of three Israeli teens.
In a video posted to YouTube, the mission pointed to statements from the White House, ABC News, and even Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas confirming the abduction before admonishing, “The UN is out of touch, out of line and out of time.”
Initially, the UN issued a statement condemning the kidnappings, saying, “The Secretary-General condemns the abduction on 12 June of three Israeli students, including two minors, in the West Bank. He expresses his solidarity with the families of the abducted and calls for their immediate release.”
But shortly afterwards the comments were walked back by the UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Farhan Haq who answered a question from a journalist by asserting, “We have no information to confirm an abduction.”
