35,000 march in New York to celebrate Israel
05.06.2014, Israel and the World New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio were among the politicians who marched along Fifth Ave. at the Celebrate Israel Parade.
"The Jewish community is very important to us in New York," Cuomo said. "Israel is also a very important ally to this country."
The annual festivity on Sunday honoring Israel also included plenty of people and floats on the ground, as well as a prototype of an Israeli spacecraft.
Fifth Avenue was filled with Israeli flags, American flags, kids in costume, marching bands and folk music.
‘’We live in a world where sometimes we feel isolated," said Rabbi Dov Lipman, a member of the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, who attended the parade. "To see tens of thousands of people coming to our side, it was worth it to fly over the ocean."
The parade, which gathered around 35,000 marchers this year, is billed as the largest meeting of people in support of Israel in the world.
