A French detergent product under the infamous name ‘’Cyclone B’’ used by a European Union’s cleaning contractor has been put out of use following complaints by a Jewish group.
The name of the product from French company ''IPC-Sa'' is reminiscent of the “Zyklon B” poison that the Nazis used to murder hundreds of thousands of Jews in gas chambers during the Holocaust.
“This is horrible ignorance at best and a Guinness world record in evil cynicism if it turns out that the company knew of the horrible use that the Nazis made of the poison,” said Rabbi Menachem Margolin, Director General of the European Jewish Association (EJA), a Brussels-based umbrella group of various organizations active on European level, who condemned the use of the name after the matter was brought the his attention.
A spokesperson for the detergent maker said it has decided to change the name of the product ”following complaints that it is offensive to Holocaust victims.''
