Romania-Israel relations featured in the EU Parliament
18.10.2013, Israel and the World Romanian Member of the European Parliament Victor Bostinaru this week launched the first volume of a series of books dedicated to the bilateral relations between his country and Israel.
It spans two decades of uninterrupted diplomatic relations between the two countries from the recognition of the State of Israel on 11 June 1948 and the young state provisional government headed by David Ben Gurion and ending with the mutual raising of diplomatic representation to ambassadorial rank, on August 17, 1969 .
During the Cold War, Romania was the only Communist country not to break its diplomatic relations with Israel.
The launch was accompanied by a presentation of some video archives from the Romanian Television.
"This event was a reenactment of the key moments that have marked the friendship and close relations between the two countries,’’ said Victor Bostinaru, who co-authored th book with Marek Siwiec, a Polish MEP from the same Socialists and Democrats group (S&D).
