Jerusalem Day, which marks the anniversary of the city’s reunification in 1967, is celebrated Tuesday evening in the European Parliament.
This annual event is organized by Member of the European Parliament Hannu Takkula from Finland, B’nai Brith International, the European Jewish Association (EJA),the European Jewish Community Center (EJCC) and the Israel Allies Foundation.
At the same time, lawmakers from Israel, the US and Europe will come together in a rare joint event to declare their support for keeping Jerusalem united as Israel’s capital.
All the legislators will be connected via a video conference from Jerusalem, Washington and Brussels.
Members of the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus will be in all three locations for the event. Member of the Knesset Dov Lipman will be in the US Congress in Washington while Member of the Knesset Robert Ilatov will be in the European Parliament and caucus co-chair Gila Gamliel will be marking the event in the Israeli parliament.
“It is fantastic to have this connection with our American and Israeli counterparts through the Israel Allies Foundation,” said Hannu Takkula, chairman of the European Parliament’s Israel Allies Caucus.
Seven years ago, he inaugurated the annual celebration of Jerusalem Day in the European Parliament.
“In the future, we will no doubt use modern means of communication more and more to celebrate Jerusalem as the undivided capital of the Jewish State of Israel,” Takula added.
