EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said Thursday she is confident negotiations on Iran's nuclear program will resume soon.
Speaking to reporters in Brussels on her way into a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers, Ashton said: “I am confident there will be a meeting soon" between Iran and the six world powers.
Earlier this week, Ashton called on Iran to halt the execution of five members of the country's Arab minority.
She said she was concerned about reports the five men had not received a fair trial and had been forced to confess.
"Reports that the executions of these men are imminent are very worrying, and I urge the Iranian authorities to commute the sentences," she said in a statement.
At Thursday's meeting, Foreign Ministers are also expected to take stock of the situation in Syria and in Egypt.
"In terms of Syria we're very interested in what Mr Brahimi (the UN envoy) has been saying to the Security Council," she said.
"We're trying to support him in every way that we can as he has a very difficult challenge. The discussion today will focus I think on what more we can do and how we can take what's been said at the Security Council, and try and address those challenges and issues, » she added.
She said the EU is also concerned about events that are taking place in Egypt.
"We are in constant touch through our delegation with President Morsi and others, including some of the opposition groups, to actually try and support the moves to democracy."
She stressed that it is very important for the EU "that Egypt is stable, that the economic issues are addressed which are extremely important and that we see political moves forward, and that really is the fundamental aspect to what the European Union wants to see happen."
