US Conference of Presidents calls on Non-Aligned Movement leaders not to attend meeting in Iran
14.08.2012, Israel and the World The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations have called on leaders of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) not to attend the upcoming organization’s summit meeting in Iran.
In a statement, Richard Stone, Chairman, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman of the Conference of Presidents, said: “We call on the leaders of member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement who value international law and justice, support the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, reject terrorism and its sponsors and abhor human rights violations, to announce that they will not participate in the NAM meeting in Iran from August 26 to 31.”
“The government of Iran must receive a strong message from the international community, including many who have suffered directly or indirectly from Iran’s support of global terrorism as well as its dangerous pursuit of nuclear weapons capacity, to publicly declare their intention not to attend,” they added.
“It is imperative that the efforts to isolate Iran until it comes into full compliance with Security Council resolutions be supported by all countries. The absence of key leaders will send an important message while participation would further embolden extremists within the regime. Iran’s recent support of terrorist attacks in 20 countries as well as Syria and directly assisting terrorist entities demand that the NAM countries take a strong stand or they too will pay the price in the future.”
