Masked gunmen in Egypt's Sinai peninsula attacked and robbed a group of tourists and kidnapped two U.S. citizens, an Egyptian security source said Friday.
A bus carrying five tourists was leaving the Saint Catherine monastery area when the gunmen attacked and stole the passengers' money and mobile phones, before taking two female U.S. tourists as hostages.
The gunmen also stole weapons from a police car that was accompanying the bus, the head of security in South Sinai province, Mohamed Naguib, told dpa.
The attack comes days after Bedouins in the central Sinai peninsula kidnapped 25 Chinese workers who were on their way to work on Tuesday.
The Chinese cement factory workers were released about 15 hours later.
