Krivoy Rog Hosts Important Visit
22.09.2011, Jews and Society The Ukrainian city of Krivoy Rog hosted a visit by Jed Sanden, a Ukrainian independent news publisher who is a U.S. citizen. Mr. Sanden is the owner of the KP Media Holding, which includes a number of popular publications in Ukraine, as well as internet sites. Mr. Sanden is a friend and sponsor of the Jewish community of Krivoy Rog and funds a number of projects related to education.
Mr. Sanden’s trip to Krivoy Rog began with a visit to the Beis Stern Shulman Synagogue, followed by the Mikhail Marmer Jewish Museum. He toured the exhibits, marveling at how one person could collect such a number of valuable Judaica items. Mr. Sanden also visited the exhibition "Stone Remembers Everything," which is currently running at the synagogue’s gallery. Tatiana Kunz, the director of the Ohr Avner Krivoy Rog Founation, told the guests about the history of the exhibition and commented on the photographs displayed there.
Mr. Sanden also toured the Ohr Avner Chabad Educational Complex. Including the department for advanced study of foreign languages, as well as the pre-school. Since Mr. Sanden is very interested in education and the upbringing of the younger generation, he was very interested in the Tal Am Hebrew language program, which was launched at the Jewish school at the beginning of this school year. He spoke with Hebrew teacher Raisa Palchikova and the program’s coordinator Rebbetzin Miri Strasberg. He also perused the textbooks and teaching materials. The day ended with a visit to the computer room and Planet Childhood Boarding School, which also pleasantly impressed Mr. Sanden.
The Jewish community of Krivoy Rog is a proud member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine. Rabbi Liron Edery serves as Chief Rabbi of Krivoy Rog and is a Chabad-Lubavitch emissary serving in the region.
