The European Union has strongly condemned the burning of a mosque in the West Bank village of Al-Mughayyir, urging the Israeli authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a statement issued in Brussels, the spokesperson EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, said: "The EU strongly condemns the burning and vandalism of a mosque in Al-Mughayyir yesterday. The respect of freedom of worship is an essential value. The EU takes note of the condemnation of the Israeli government and calls on the authorities to investigate this attack and bring the perpetrators to justice."
Ashton’s spokesperson said these provocations "undermine efforts to promote a comprehensive peace in the region."
"The EU will continue to focus all its efforts on achieving a peaceful and negotiated resolution to the Israeli Palestinian conflict."
