50th anniversary of Eichmann Trial: film track uploaded to YouTube
10.04.2011, Israel Ahead of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Eichmann Trial, two new YouTube Channels have been launched containing the film track of the trial held by the Israel State Archives.
The 50th anniversary is on April 11, 2011.
The channels - one with the original soundtrack, enhanced for better sound, in Hebrew, German and Yiddish, and the other with simultaneous English translation - are the result of intense cooperation between Yad Vashem in Jerusalem and the Israel State Archives, in collaboration with Google.
In addition to the films, the channels will contain supplementary information about the trial, as well as explanations of the sessions in Hebrew and in English
"Uploading this footage on the 50th anniversary of this landmark trial, gives a new generation the opportunity to view one of the most significant turning points in humanity’s attempt to grapple with the Holocaust, and see and hear the survivors’ testimony first hand," said Avner Shalev, Chairman of Yad Vashem.
Over 400 hours of video, available in high resolution – about one terabyte of data – have been uploaded to the two channels. The channels are at:
English: http://www.youtube.com/EichmannTrialEN
Hebrew: http://www.youtube.com/EichmannTrial
In addition to the YouTube Channels, a special mini-site containing historical background, short video lectures, and a film entitled "A Living Record" can be accessed at www.yadvashem.org. Additional information is also available at the Israel State Archives at www.archives.gov.il.
On Monday, a new exhibition on the Eichmann trial, "With Me Here are Six Million Accusers: An Exhibition Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Eichmann Trial" and a special Symposium "The Imprint of the Eichmann Trial: A Reassessment 50 Years Later" will take place at Yad Vashem.
