                  17.03.2011, Jews and Society

The Jewish Community of Japan has just established a fund to assist the quake victims. All the funds collected through this account will be transferred to the NGO JEN. JEN is a Japan based NGO that has extensive experience aiding victims of natural disasters throughout the world (the Jerusalem Post has already mentioned our response in an article). Funds contributed by the Jewish Community of Japan will be used to:

                  1) procure, cook and distribute food in areas effected by the earthquake; and

                  2) procure and distribute materials which people desperately need and which are in short supply, such as diapers and female sanitary products.

As the situation on the ground is rapidly changing, funds provided by the JCJ may also be utilized for other purposes depending on the immediate needs of those individuals effected by the earthquake.

                  The following are the details:

Mizuho Bank, Aoyama Branch (Branch #211)
Savings Account ("Futsu" in Japanese) #2049749
                  SWIFT code: MHBKJPJT
Account Name: JEWISH COMMUNITY OF JAPAN
                  Bank Address: 3-6-12, Kita-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo 107-0061, Japan

NB: To minimize bank wire charges, which would reduce the amount of money available to help the disaster victims, it is recommended that, where possible, individuals combine their donations into one wire transfer.
