An opinion poll in Turkey has revealed that a majority of Turks either regard the United States or Israel as their country’s main enemy. Of the 2,000 persons who took part in the survey – which was conducted by Ankara-based Metro Poll Strategic and Social Research Center –, 42 percent said they regarded the United States as Turkey's number one enemy, and 23 percent singled out Israel as the country’s main foe. Only six percent of those polled mentioned Greece and a three percent picked Armenia. Eleven percent of the respondents chose other countries as Turkey's number one enemy, while 14 percent had no opinion.
Meanwhile, an opinion poll by the BBC has found that Israel is one of the most negatively viewed countries in the world, ranking at the bottom of the chart along with Iran, North Korea and Pakistan. In 2011, a majority of respondents in 22 out of the 27 countries that were surveyed had a negative view of Israel, especially in Egypt, Turkey and Indonesia. The countries which had the most positive view of Israel were the United States, Russia, Ghana, and China. Germany, Britain, Japan, Canada and France were topped the list of the most popular countries.
