Stavropol Jewish Leaders Meet with Vice-Premier
10.02.2011, Jews and Society The town of Yessentuki, located at the base of the Caucasus Mountains.in the Stavropol Region, hosted a number of leaders. Among them were Chief Rabbi of Stavropol Alexander Nesterov, and Stavropol Jewish community chairman Konstantin Solomonov, and Alexander Khloponin, the Vice-Premier of the Russian Federation and Plenipotentiary Envoy of the President to the North Caucasus Federal District.
During the meeting, the participants discussed issues concerning the multi-ethnic and multi-faith development of the region, the challenge of strengthening the spiritual foundation of society, and the participation of local Jewish national-cultural autonomy and religious organizations in the life of the Stavropol region.
Mr. Khloponin stated that the authorities are very interested in the development of the Jewish community in the North Caucasus Federal District. He also said that he was ready to provide support and assistance to the leadership of the Stavropol Jewish community. The Vice-Premier also invited the Jewish leaders to join the Public Council operating under the Presidential Plenipotentiary in the North Caucasus Federal District.
