Iranian officials call for removal of Star of David from Tehran building
04.12.2010, Israel and the World According to media reports in Tehran, Iranian officials have called for the removal of a Star of David painted on the roof of the headquarters of the country's national airline, Iran air, after the Jewish symbol was revealed in a satellite image.
The reports said Google Earth took the image of the building, which was reportedly built by Israeli engineers who worked in Iran before the 1979 Islamic revolution.
Describing the star as a "Zionist" symbol, an Iranian website said it is "interesting" that more than 30 years after the revolution, the depiction has yet to be removed.
Israel and Iran maintained good ties under the Shah’s until the Islamic Revolution of 1979 ended the relationship. Before 1979, Israel brokered arms deals with Iran, and there were regular flights between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly expressed a desire to destroy Israel.
