                  Mourning for 16,000 Mariupol Jews

                  Schluchim of the Dnepropetrovsk Shiurei Torah helped Chief Rabbi of Mariupol Menachem-Mendel Kohen and the local community to hold a memorial meeting dedicated to 69th anniversary of mass shooting of Priazovie Jews by Nazis.
                  The ceremony started at the spot marked with a memorial plaque where the Nazis gathered Jews to take them to their last place. Before the War Mariupol was mostly inhabited by Greeks and Jews, with lots of synagogues, schools and culture centers, busy Jewish life.
                  The event continued at the actual shooting site where the community was put to death, many women, seniors and children among them.
                  Honouring the memory of the victims was the first mission which united the revived community. Big effort was made to put a monument with Jewish symbols on the shooting site. Now it’s been installed with hundreds of people present. Chief Rabbi Kohen read the mourning prayers, and the people said “Amen”.
                  mong the public there were lots of young people brought here by Shiurei Torah activists; taking part in all community events is an important part of their return to the roots.
