British press agency apologizes about use of Auschwitz illustration picture by regional newspapers
20.10.2010, Jews and Society The British news agency Press Association has apologized after several regional newspapers mistakingly used one of its picture of the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp to illustrate a story about a rail protest in Wales.
Several newspapers and websites, including The Cambridge News and Bedfordshire on Sunday, used image provided by Press Association of the railway leading into Auschwitz to illustrate the story of a woman protesting about the behavior of Cardiff City football fans on board of a train.
A Press Association spokesperson was quoted as saying: "We apologize for any offence caused by this unfortunate human error. The photograph was removed from the story as soon as we realized the mistake and we have taken steps to ensure this does not happen again in the future."
The news agency quickly replaced the image on its own site, though the offending image of Auschwitz lingered longer on the websites of local papers.
