The Moscow Jewish Community Center celebrated its 10th anniversary with a host of activities.
Since opening its doors to the Jewish community in the Marina Roscha neighborhood ten years ago, the JCC has not only become the main meeting place for Moscow Jews, but also a center of Jewish life for the entire country. Thanks to the Moscow JCC, hundreds of thousands of Jews have become acquainted with Jewish life and culture by attending diverse events and a multitude of clubs and workshops that are regularly held at the Moscow JCC.
The celebrations began on the morning of Sunday, September 26, with an Open House. In the educational wing of the JCC, clubs and groups offered presentations about their programs for visitors. Representatives of the Shaarei Tzedek Charity Center, the Russian-Israeli Rambam Medical Center, the Machon Chamesh Institute for Women and other Jewish community institutions also made presentations in the morning.
Simultaneously, a program for children of all ages took place in celebration of the JCC’s first decade. There were various forms of entertainment including a magic show and a unique bubble extravaganza. Children also participated in a “hands-on” activity of creating edible sukkas.
In the evening, a concert for adults filled the main sanctuary. The concerts featured poet Vladimir Vishnevsky, composer Alexander Zhurbin, artistic director of the Shalom Theater Alexander Levenbuk, and other popular performers. The celebration concluded with dancing to live music performed by the Freilechs group, which put on a lively and colorful show.
