On September 19, the Moscow Jewish Community Center celebrated the re-opening of the men’s mikvah following its renovation. The newly renovated mikvah was renamed the “Berger Mikvah” in honor of businessman Yevgeny Berger who sponsored the project.
Gregory Gerzhoy, the shammash (sexton) of the Marina Roscha synagogue in the JCC, explained that the mikvah closed for renovations in mid-July.
The honor of cutting the ribbon to inaugurate the mikvah’s re-opening was given to Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar, together with the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia Alexander Boroda and the project’s sponsor Mr. Berger.
The renowned Cantor Shneur Zalman Baumgarten travelled to Moscow from New York specially to perform at the event, where he inspired and entertained the participants.
