Successful First Month for Stavropol Rabbi
20.08.2010, Community Life It has been a little over a month since the day Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar introduced Jews of Stavropol to their new rabbi, Alexander Nesterov. During this short period, this Chabad-Lubavitch emissary has visited various governmental institutions in the Stavropol Region.
The meeting Rabbi Nesterov attended at the Ministry of Education of the Stavropol Region, dealt with the prospects of a pilot project at a secondary school to study the history and foundations of world religions.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Stavropol Territory was also interested in Rabbi Nesterov’s proposal regarding cooperation in the framework of assisting socially vulnerable people. He also visited the regional Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Property Relations, and the Prosecutor's Office of the Stavropol Region.
To promote further fruitful cooperation, Rabbi Nesterov held meetings with representatives of the Jewish communities of Kislovodsk and Pyatigorsk, as well as with a group from the Chesed Bentsion Jewish charitable fund of Pyatigorsk.
Of course, Rabbi Nesterov spends the bulk of his time working with the Jewish community. In that capacity, the rabbi meets with homebound residents, leads Shabbat gatherings and is currently involved with preparations for the upcoming High Holidays.
