The Turkish parliament voted to prolong the mandate of the Turkish contingent operating as part of of the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) in Lebanon for another year, according to a report by Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
This has been the fourth renewal of Turkey's UNIFIL commitments by the Turkish parliament since the initial approval in 2006.
After the United Nations Security Council approves an extension of UNIFIL's term, the Turkish forces will return to Lebanon for a year starting April 5, 2010.
Turkish troops will continue to support UNIFIL in its goal of enforcing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah that has been in place since Aug. 14, 2006.
The amount of soldiers Turkey will contribute remains at its discretion.
