16.06.2010, Community Life On June 13, the new Ohr Avner Chabad educational complex in Baku hosted an open day, which was attended by over 200 guests.
At noon, a convoy of buses headed from the Jewish Community Center of Baku to the new campus of the Ohr Avner Chabad Educational Complex, the construction of which was made possible thanks to support from the Ohr Avner Foundation, headed by FJC President Lev Leviev.
Apart from children from the Jewish kindergarden and school, their families, and other community members, the group was joined by honored guests and Jewish veterans. Upon their arrival, everyone had the chance to tour the new facilities and the surrounding grounds.
A ceremony then took place in the sports hall. The General Director of the educational complex, Rabbi Matityagu Louis, emphasized that the school and kindergarten are like a second home for young Jews of Azerbaijan. He encouraged parents to bring their children and grandchildren to study at the new educational complex. "Here, in the new school complex, the future generation of Jewish people will be raised. Here they will receive an excellent secular education, as well as receive the high spiritual values of the people of Israel and centuries-old historical ways that illuminate the sacred precepts of the Torah," commented Rabbi Matityagu Louis.
"The new Chabad Ohr Avner complex is built on an area of 15,000 square meters, which was allocated to us by the President of Azerbaijan," noted the headmaster of the Chabad-Ohr Avner School, Samir Khanlarov.
The new complex is designed to accommodate 500 school pupils and preschoolers. In addition to the teaching facilities of the school and kindergarten, the new complex also includes a cultural center, a large sports hall, and a dining room. Guests of this opening ceremony were invited to enjoy a kosher buffet in the latter room.
Guests were presented with symbolic gifts, while hundreds of photographs and dozens of video footage were taken to capture this important event, which will be recorded in the history of the Chabad-Or Avner Educational Complex of Baku.
