A Torah scroll, restored in Dnepropetrovsk by experts from the National Sofer Center, was presented to the Jewish community of Sumy. This scroll was restored thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Rier family. A celebration was organized for the presentation of the restored scroll to the Sumy Jewish community. The event also involved a delegation from the Dnepropetrovsk Jewish community, as well as several guests from other cities of Ukraine, headed by Chief Rabbi of Kharkov Moshe Moskowitz.
The head of the National Sofer Center, Rabbi Reuven Margolin, as well as the main sponsor of the restoration of the Torah scroll, Levi Rier, were honored guests at the celebration. There was a procession with the scroll, carried under a Chuppa (wedding canopy), accompanied by an band through the streets of the city. The scroll was then brought into the Sumy synagogue where everyone danced with the Torah scrolls.
Upon addressing the crowd at the gathering, Chief Rabbi of Sumy Yechiel Levitansky expressed his deep gratitude to the Jews of Dnepropetrovsk and in particular to the Rier family for this wonderful gift.
The Jewish communities of Sumy, Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov, as well as the other communities represented at this ceremony, are members of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine.
