Visit Of US Ambassador To Synagogue in Dnepropetrovsk
28.05.2010, Jews and Society During his visit to Dnepropetrovsk US Ambassador John Tefft also visited Golden Rose synagogue and had a meeting with Chief Rabbi Kaminezki, leaders and activists of the Jewish community.
In the main hall of the synagogue the Ambassador addressed students of STARS-National business school projects and said he’d heard a lot about the Dnepropetrovsk community, Golden Rose and Chief Rabbi Kaminezki so he made it a point to see everything with his own eyes. “I will come back”, he promised.
Then John Tefft together with his group visited the menorah center construction and expressed their admiration with the project scale.
After the tour Mr. Tefft had a business meeting with a member of the Board of Trustees Uri Laber, director of Tzivos Hashem rabbi Yosif Glik, community director Zelig Brez and head of community information projects Oleg Rostovtsev.
During the meeting were discussed a wide scope of questions: relations among nations and religions in Ukraine, necessity to fight xenophobia and anti-Semitism, construction of the first in Ukraine Holocaust museum and its importance for promotion of tolerance, cooperation of Boston and Dnepropetrovsk Jewish communities especially those helping all citizens of the region, etc.
In conclusion the Ambassador received video and other materials about the Dnepropetrovsk Jewish community and its projects.
