New Kosher Café Opens in S. Petersbsurg
21.05.2010, Community Life The Golden Café, located at 17 Labutin Street in S. Petersburg, opened on the eve of Shavuot. “It is symbolic that this kosher cafe, where all food is being prepared in accordance with the kosher dietary laws found in the Torah, opened on the eve of the holiday celebrating the giving of the Torah,” stated the Chief Rabbi of S. Petersburg, Menachem Mendel Pewzner, who is also a Chabad-Lubavitch emissary serving in the region.
The new café will enable local Jews and visitors to keep kosher more easily. With every passing year, more and more Jews are interesting in eating only kosher both at home and outside of the home. “In S. Petersburg, there are already two kosher restaurants (7:40 and Lechaim). But only now, with the opening of Golden Café, is there a kosher cafe,” noted Golda Tolochinskaya, the manager of the new café.
“The wide variety of dishes offered on the Golden Café menu includes favorites from Ashkenazi cuisine, as well as Israeli and Georgian cuisine,” explained Ms. Tolochinskaya. “Not only does our café meet the strictest kosher requirements, but the food is also healthy and wholesome. This makes us confident that our café will be frequented by everybody, not only Jews.” The menu includes meat dishes as well as parve fare.
