Israel closes West Bank for commemorations

                  18.04.2010, Israel

Israel closed the West Bank for Israel's Memorial and Independence days.
The closure began Saturday night at midnight and will be lifted Tuesday night at midnight by order of Minister of Defense Ehud Barak, according to a statement from the Israeli army.
Israel's Memorial Day begins at 8 p.m. Sunday. Independence Day begins Monday evening and runs through Tuesday.
During the closure, those in need of medical care will be permitted to leave the area. The Civil Administration will authorize the passage of humanitarian aid as well as medical personnel, lawyers, religious leaders and others.
Meanwhile, in honor of Independence Day, several Israeli army bases will be open to the general public on Monday and Tuesday, an annual tradition. The Israeli Navy and Air Force will hold special demonstrations.
