Dnepropetrovsk mayor awarded Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki with the highest city award “For Service to the City” for big personal contribution into peace among nations and confessions in the city.
During the ceremony the mayor emphasized the importance of the rabbi’s work for the city. He praised the Jewish community progress in education, humanitarian and social sphere.
The mayor spoke about contribution of the Jewish community into the city development and the fact that the world biggest Jewish center menorah is being built here.
In his turn rabbi Kaminezki said the community appreciates the atmosphere of friendship, good neighbourly relations, partnership and tolerance cultivated by the city authorities, and many important Jewish community projects would be impossible without their support.
After the ceremony the rabbi took the mayor to the menorah construction site and invited him to its opening this September. The mayor was impressed with Purim food package campaign for 7000 seniors and the needy.
