Poland's culture ministry has set aside money to improve security at the Auschwitz memorial site.

Culture Minister Bogdan Zdrojewski set aside about $137,000 Wednesday to improve security at the site.

The move comes days after the original "Arbeit Macht Frei" sign stolen last week from the front gate of the concentration camp was found, cut into three pieces and ready to be smuggled out of the country.

The guards on duty the night that the sign was stolen have been suspended, according to reports.

Five men, aged 20 to 39, were arrested in the theft. The motive appears to be financial, though anti-Semitism has not been ruled out.
